A welcome note

Greetings through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We hope and trust that you are all fine and are blessed by our continuous Magazine which comes to you after every month. Thank you very much dear readers for your persistent encouragement to us, you have no idea how much you bless us with your responses. May the Lord bless you, protect you and meet all your heart’s desires. May His perfect will be done unto your lives! Now, in our 3rd edition, we covered a lot on the Bible, the standards we live and die by. What a blessing it is to know that it is only God’s Divine Word full of truth shall we live by. It is with this regard our dear readers, that we present to you our 4th edition of ‘The Good News Magazine’. On this May issue we are going to share more about sowing seeds. We believe that each one of you understands about sowing. We at ‘The Good News Magazine’, are already sowing into your hearts these precious messages of our Lord. We believe that the Holy Spirit will continue to nurture that which we plant and in due season we shall reap. And so it is with you too, as you share out this Magazine with your friends at work, church and at home be assured that when the time comes for reaping we shall all rejoice!

Remember during sowing, farmers encounter many challenges. It could be that they don’t have enough seeds to sow or may be the land isn’t fertile. But this does not stop a determined farmer to continue sowing. The farmer will try by all means to have the right seed and a fertile land in order to receive good returns during harvest. Therefore, our dear reader, just as the farmer who never gives up sowing, we encourage you to continue taking this Good News out there in sharing it. Behold, this is a time of sowing and the harvest is coming. For a cry many endure in the night but joy comes in the morning!

With love,

Justus & Debbie The Good News Magazine editors. [email protected], [email protected] http://riseupministries.webs.com

As the old saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers”. In other words, what's done in April won't show until May...or sometimes June. The same applies to planting seeds. We don't plant them instantly and then see instant results. Some plants begin to sprout sooner than others, some begin to sprout and then wither away due to conditions such as not enough water, the soil is too shallow, or perhaps too much sun too soon. While sun is a good thing and needed for plants, young, fresh, green sprouting plants can get burnt and wither away because the sun is too strong for them yet.

We here at The Good News Magazine view sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in much the same way. We get this description from the Bible itself.

Our passage this month is taken from Mark 4 & Matthew 13. It is a parable that Jesus taught by way of a story, to help those who have ears to hear, to be able to understand what He is teaching. One way of looking at a parable is “an earthly story with a heavenly meaning”. In other words, you take everyday things, events, places and use them in a story to represent a spiritual message. This is exactly what Jesus did when sharing the parable of the sower, and what we hope to accomplish here today.

We begin in Mark 4. Beginning in verse 1 and ending in verse 9, we read, “And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land. And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine, Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow; And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up. And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no fruit. And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth some thirty, and some sixty, and some hundred. And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”

If you are a farmer and depend upon sowing seed, growing crops and then having a fruitful harvest, you understand perfectly the importance of this parable from an earthly perspective. If you are an avid gardener who has that special “green thumb” that seems to be able to make even the most stubborn of flowers blossom into beautiful blooms to behold, you too understand. But to those of us who do not have experience in this profession or hobby, it takes on just as an important meaning. There are 4 different descriptions of soil, which represent the heart condition of man contained in this parable:

1. The way side

2. The stony ground

3. The thorns

4. The good ground

You see, because the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, we have another account of this parable, which goes into explaining exactly what this parable means in case there is any doubt or misunderstanding. Matthew 13:18-23 reads, “Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and with joy receiveth it; Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word: and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word and he becometh unfruitful. But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

Now, after reading both accounts, lets take a look once again at the four conditions of soil and the condition of the hearts they represent;

1. The way side- hears the Gospel but doesn't understand it and dismisses it.

2. The stony ground- accepts the Gospel with joy, and lives for the Lord until

something terrible happens or he begins to be tormented for his beliefs, and

so, he then turns back to his old ways.

3. The thorns- this heart likes what he hears, and chooses the Gospel, but also

loves the world and the things in it. Therefore, he grows no further, and doesn't

produce fruit and just remains just as he was when he first heard.

4. The good ground- the heart that hears the Gospel and understands it and

grows and grows, but at his own pace. Some grow spiritually stronger quicker

than others, but all are growing.

Which one are you? You have been given the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Your heart is one of the 4 types of soil, but which one? The choice is yours! Salvation is not the only choice we need to make either. As those who have already surrendered your hearts to Jesus Christ and profess Him as your Lord and Savior, what are you doing about it? Are you sharing with your neighbors? Are you giving the Gospel to those you meet on the street? What about those you work along side of at work...or your friends that are so very dear to you, but haven't made that decision yet.

Have you stopped to rest a bit? Take a break from sowing the seed? Night is coming...you'll soon be running out of “Son-light” to be able to sow before darkness falls. The Lord tells us Himself in Luke 10:2, “...The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest.”

That is you and I, Brother and Sister. WE are the laborers, and the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Realizing all that we've looked at today, read the words to this old hymn Bringing In The Sheaves by Knowles Shaw and see the new meaning it takes on once this parable is understood and applied.

“Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness, Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve; Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping, We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in the shadows, Fearing neither clouds nor winter’s chilling breeze; By and by the harvest, and the labor ended, We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Going forth with weeping, sowing for the Master, though the loss sustained our spirit often grieves; When our sweeping’s over, He will bid us welcome, we shall come rejoicing , bringing in the sheaves.”

And that we shall, dear friends; We shall be rejoicing over each soul that comes to know our loving Savior Jesus Christ. But we're not alone! Each time, we sow the seeds of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and a soul comes to Him, we are told in Luke 15:7, “I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.”

And so, dear ones, as you're taking care of your spring garden's or readying your soil for planting season, may this article bring to remembrance the need for us to be sowing the seeds of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Remember, not all the soil will be prepared, but our job is to do the sowing, and the Lord's job is the harvesting. Amen!

We all know what it means by sowing and reaping. A farmer expects a harvest after planting or sowing a seed. We have all in many ways sown seeds in people’s lives only later to realize that we are reaping the same things we had sown.

We would not expect oranges when we sow apple seeds. It is so important to understand what we want to harvest. If you want others to be nice to you, then be nice to others. If you want a good report then give good report of others. If you need love, then love others. The kind of harvest you need determines the kind of seed you sow. However, the decision lies with us all, whether to sow good seeds or bad seeds it is all up to us, but eventually, the harvest time when it is come, then expect to reap the exact things you had sown.

The Lord has promised to reward us for all the good seeds we sow in our lives. Just as His Word says in Hebrews 6:10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have showed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

The Lord wants us to sow good seeds so that we can get an abundant harvest in our lives. We can begin by sowing seeds of love, joy, peace, kindness, and many more to our brothers and sisters. We can share the wonderful message of salvation to all hence sowing in people’s hearts the Living Word of God.

We cannot receive a harvest unless we sow the seed. Let’s begin sowing by faith and expect a harvest by faith. We must be strong in faith in order to be aggressive in sowing and diligent in reaping. Our good deeds through God’s sufficient grace can result in great blessings and make a significant difference in the lives of people. We can be a great blessing to the Kingdom of God if we are diligent in sowing seeds of love and kindness in the lives of people and we will surely receive great rewards and blessings in our lives.

We will also receive divine favour and help in time of trouble, as the Lord will be faithful to deliver us , because we have cared for the poor and the needy.

Psalms 41:1-3 Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.

The Lord wants us to realize the power of a seed. A small mustard seed when planted grows into a large tree. We must keep sowing our seeds no matter how small they seem to be, because there is great power in a tiny seed. While sowing there is a waiting time which needs endurance and patience. We must have patience in order to experience the fulfillment of the promise. We must not lose our faith and confidence during the time of waiting. Hebrews 10:35-36 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Therefore, let’s keep on doing good without getting discouraged so that we can get a harvest of blessings at the right time. Let us look for opportunities to do good especially to the people of God and keep on sowing good seeds in their lives. Galatians 6:9-10 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Then we can look forward with confidence to an abundant harvest of souls to the Kingdom of God!

Finally my brethren, let us sow our prayers so that we can get a harvest of answers to our prayers. If we don’t pray and watch, the enemy will come at night and destroy the seeds we have planted. We must pray with earnestness and passion. Let’s pray with the full assurance that the Lord will surely reward those who diligently seek Him. Let’s pour out our hearts to God. We should not pray half hearted prayers which are not effective. We should not waste our time and energy in worrying and complaining. Instead we must be sowing seeds of prayer which can bring us a harvest of blessings from God. When we sow in tears we will reap with joy. Psalms 126:5-6.

Seedtime and Harvest | Clarence E. Hunter & Charles E. Orr

As pilgrims and strangers we journey through life:

Through sunshine and shadow, through calm and through strife;

Each day we are scattering seed as we go,

Some day 'twill be harvest--"we reap what we sow."

Though weary and worn, and alone in your way,

And stormclouds are gath'ring, and dark is your day,

Weep not, toiling one, neither faint as you go;

The harvest is nearing--"we reap what we sow."

Though life may appear as a cold, barren waste,

And comes no return of the bread you have cast,

Continue to do loving deeds as you go;

The harvest is nearing--"we reap what we sow."

We'll reap what we sow when the harvest is come,

Some day we shall garner the deeds we have done;

Then heed not the storm, nor the cold winds that blow,

Toil on till the harvest--"we reap what we sow."

Sowing the Seed | Daniel S. Warner

Unheeding winter's cruel blast,

We venture heaven's seed to cast,

Both late and early plant the truth

In aged hearts and tender youth.

Shall we be found with only leaves

When Jesus comes to gather sheaves?

Nay, sowing daily o'er the land,

We'll come with joyful sheaves in hand.

Nor is the precious labor hard,

Its glory is its own reward;

We plant in hearts of grim despair

A life that blooms as Eden fair.

Oh, were this life the utmost span,

The closing destiny of man,

No toil could half so blessed prove

As sowing seeds of peace and love.

But heaven's bright eternal years

Have bottled up our sowing tears;

There we shall greet in holy bliss

The souls we turned to righteousness.

Then sow the seed in every field,

And grace will bring the golden yield;

We soon shall sing the joyful song,

And shout the blessed harvest home.

By: Joseph J. Mazzella

I was eating an apple the other day when I over bit. My teeth went right into the core and I got a tiny seed stuck in them. I was finally able to get the little toothacher out after five minutes of working at it. I looked at the little thing and then at the apple tree in the field outside my window.

It seemed so amazing that this tiny seed that fit between two of my teeth could one day grow into a large and beautiful tree like the one I saw outside. Even more amazing was that the tree could produce thousands upon thousands of apples in its lifetime and that each apple it produced could contain seeds to grow even more trees full of blossoms, leaves, and apples of their own. I smiled and laughed at the wonder of it all.

If God can work such a never-ending miracle of growth and life through a tiny apple seed just think of the miracles that God can work through each of our lives if we only let Him. We are all just seeds of potential ourselves. We can lie dormant and never grow a bit or if we choose we can begin to shoot up joyously through the ground and bless the world with our lives. We can grow and become a person of beauty and goodness.

We can sprout blossoms of delight, grow leaves of kindness and caring, and then give to the world apples of love and joy. We can shower the world with the fruit of our lives and plant countless seeds of peace and happiness that will continue to grow in the hearts and souls of others for years to come.

We can become a tree of life and love in this world and let God work miracles of joy through us. The choice, of course, is ours. Are we going to be a dead seed lying useless in the dirt or are we going to be the glorious, giving tree that God meant us to be?

By brother James Beverly

"I was born on August 21, 1978 and have lived in Pike County, Georgia U.S.A. all my life ...... although I have moved around some. My mom was raised in a strict Christian household and was saved when she was 9. She met and married my dad in 1972. My dad was a hard man and was as lost spiritually as the day is long when I was growing up. The scriptures say at one point not to be unequally yoked with an unbelieving partner in this life.

My mom always stood on the WORD though when people would throw that up at her and she would say "the scriptures also say that if any part of your family is lost and you pray for them fervently then they shall be saved." That is my mom and I am so blessed to have a mother that not only knows the WORD but isn't afraid to stand up for it also.

Her prayers were answered in 1991 when my dad finally surrendered to the conviction of the Holy Spirit and gave his life to the LORD. Almost 20 years of praying for him every day. That is commitment. I can remember my mom and my grandmother, her mom, crying a lot out of joy. Me being younger and lost I had no understanding of what was going on. I now know without a doubt that the angels were rejoicing when he was won ... you would have had to know him.

In the fall of 1996 we, my mom, dad and myself, moved to my current location just outside of Molena out in the sticks as people say around here. The road we moved on had hardly a house all the way down it. It was totally different for me and I knew that it was going to take some time to adjust to, and boy did it ever in more ways than one. We were moved in somewhat by the time school started back (my junior year ..... it would have been my senior but I failed due to goofing off in the 8th grade). Although we were in a different locale things seemed to be pretty much the same. My mom and dad both worked at the same textile mill and we went on with our lives; or so I thought. In June 1997 the telephone rang at a little after 2:00 am on a Monday morning and my mom answered it. It was the mill where they worked wanting my dad to come in to start up some machines (he was always on call because he was the chief mechanic). She woke him up and rolled back over to go to sleep. He stood up, took two steps and fell over dead with a massive heart attack. This would start the ball rolling for what seemed like a long, long time of living in the valley for my mom and me. The very next June we were involved in a serious car accident that had me in the hospital for an extended time and then confined to a chair at home for nearly 4 months. That fall, the mill permanently closed up and my mom's job was gone. They filed bankruptcy and although she had put in many years her pay for that time amounted to almost nothing.

Things seemed to be only going down hill to me until that October when one night my mom had turned on the tv to and was listening to some preaching that I knew nothing about. Being laid up like I was for such a long time when I was very active had become somewhat a thorn in my flesh. I was tired of doing nothing but as I sat there that night and listened to a message of salvation I noticed myself bowing my head and closing my eyes and praying that the LORD would save me. I didn't know why I was doing it or even what it meant but I knew something was causing me to do it. My mom was ecstatic that I had gotten saved and I was like, "Okay?"... haha ....

So here we are now in 2014 and as I look back on these things I type this and think "Wow...look at what the LORD has done." Now I have to add a few more details here to complete this. To begin with, I didn't follow through like I should have with getting baptized and getting into the WORD and going to church. As a matter of fact I didn't even join a church until January 2004. After all those years of being saved and stagnant the LORD was about to unveil me so to speak.

One Saturday morning in January I was sitting around doing nothing and the thought came to my mind that I should go to a local church that my mom had been going to on and off over the years. I asked her where she was going the next morning and being my mom she asked "I would love to....you want to go with me?" Before I even knew what had happened I had answered her and said "Yes I do." The next morning I walked into that huge church with all of those people and sat there not knowing what to expect. At the end of the service the pastor asked if anyone wanted to be saved or baptized or ... WAIT!!! ...that was it... the baptizing... I had never followed through with it. I was scared to death to walk out into that aisle and go down in front of all those people but the LORD nudged me on and after I took that first step I felt as though I just glided down there. He asked me what I wanted him to do for me and I told him that I was saved but that I had never been baptized and I wanted to do that and join so I could get in with the fellowship that I needed to grow.

Now to show you how the LORD works so mightily. That particular church holds baptism once a month and guess what day the LORD has impressed on me to go? That's right ... it was the day of their baptizing. I was baptized that night along with 16 others and I thought that was something too ... for all my life I have always loved the number 17. I also now know that the number 17 means "victory" when studying the Bible and that is what I have ladies and gentlemen... I have victory in JESUS! I started singing in the choir there and then started playing lead guitar for the youth band that the LORD blessed me to be part of although I certainly wasn't a youth. I was there until October 2009 when the LORD moved me to a little church that I played at for 3 1/2 years. They were needing help in their music department and HE spoke to me strongly on this one Sunday while I was in choir. I knew nothing of this church HE was calling me to help at but I didn't question HIM. I was obedient and HE blessed me in many ways for my time there. In April of 2013 the LORD spoke to me again. It was time for me to move on again. Interestingly HE moved me back to the church I was baptized in and I shall be there as long as HE needs this time as well.

The LORD's ways are NOT our ways and I know that more now than ever. We all think that we are okay until we are redeemed and then we can look back and really see how far off course we really were. The LORD has blessed me so much over the years and now I am involved full time at my church and a big ministry on Facebook straight off of my wall. I now hope to be used through this website too and sharing what HE will impress on my heart to share.

The LORD has blessed me with many things but the gift that I appreciate more than all is the very gift of HIS Son that died on the cross some 2000 years ago so I could live forever with HIM in perfection!!! GOD bless you all and I appreciate you taking your special time that HE has given you to read this and I pray above all that it will in some small way minister to you and let you know that even though we are all different we are all the same when it comes to needing a Savior!!!

Love you all...

Your brother in CHRIST,

James Beverly

What We Believe - Our Statement of Faith

We believe in the absolute authority of the Holy Scriptures.

We believe the original manuscripts were given by inspiration of God and were without error.

We believe the God who gave His word to man has taken upon Himself the responsibility for its preservation (Psalms 12:6-7).

We believe the incorruptible word of God which cannot pass away is available to the English speaking world in the Authorized King James Version. This Bible is our final authority in all matters.

We believe in one God eternally existent as the Father, the Word(The Son, Jesus Christ), and the Holy Ghost.

We believe God to be the creator and sustainer of all things, visible and invisible. We believe the universe and all that is therein to be held together by the word of His power.

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ to be God manifest in the flesh, virgin born, without sin, crucified, risen and coming again to receive His church, then returning to establish His kingdom.

We believe salvation is available to all men by grace through faith in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ, apart from human works or merit of any kind.

We believe the saved child of God is eternally secure in the Lord Jesus Christ, and is sealed, taught, and comforted by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption.

We believe salvation makes one a member of the body of Christ and the members of this body should gather together in a local church where they may minister one to another.

We believe it is the responsibility of every believer to proclaim the saving gospel to all men by personal testimony and by giving of their means to finance the missionary efforts of the church.

We believe all men rejecting the Lord Jesus Christ will spend eternity in the conscious torment of a literal lake of fire, while those receiving the Lord Jesus Christ will spend eternity in the glorious presence of God.

We believe all saved men should be separate from the outward and inner ways of this world, being holy in mind and body.

We believe, however, that righteousness does not come by keeping of laws and commandments but by an inner change of heart. We therefore place emphasis on the

inner condition, trusting the outward appearance to follow accordingly.

We believe that water baptism is a public testimony made by the saved Christian and plays no part in salvation or making one a member of the church.

We believe in the priesthood of all believers and decry any fashion of exalting one member of the body of Christ, or one gift of the Spirit above another.

We believe that the church is a body of which Jesus is the head. Thus it is not a democracy to be run by the will of its members but is to conduct its temporal as well as its spiritual business in strict accordance to the word of God. "

Death in the Streets: Urgent Prayer for Ukraine

“Our hearts are broken. We didn’t expect this to happen.”

These are the words of two long-time ministry friends of Christian Aid Mission whose work is based in Ukraine. They are urging Christians around the world to join Ukrainian believers in praying for peace and an end to the bloodshed in Kiev.

Three months of anti-government protests turned deadly this week when violent clashes erupted between demonstrators and police. At least 100 people are dead and hundreds more have been injured, according to media reports.

Smaller-scale protests are taking place in cities across Ukraine. One ministry leader described how desperate the situation has become for residents as medical and food supplies run low.

“Buildings are burning in many parts of Ukraine. Grocery stores have been emptied of food. There is no gasoline. The airports in Kiev are shut down. Computers and cell phones are not working well. The hospitals are full. There aren’t enough ambulances or medicine to help all of the injured,” he said.

Christian Aid assists six ministries in Ukraine, including a children’s home located three miles from Kiev’s Independence Square and the center of the riots. Soldiers are posted everywhere, even on the street in front of the orphanage, said a ministry representative.

In Western Ukraine, the director of a church-planting ministry reported Thursday that demonstrations were occurring in his community also. Rising fears have brought many people to church—and to their knees. If there is a silver lining in the midst of the chaos and uncertainty, it is the unity of followers of all Christian faiths who are crying out to God on behalf of their countrymen.

“Christians in Ukraine have made the decision that for the next three days they will fast and pray for their country,” the director said. “The churches are packed with people praying. Some are coming and repenting and confessing their sins and giving their hearts to God for the first time.”

“They say, ‘If we die tomorrow, we want to be with God,’” he said.

The ministry has sent out over 500 missionaries since its founding over 20 years ago. These Christian leaders have established churches in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, and small house fellowships among the mostly Muslim population in Crimea.

The director said his organization will continue their work in the region. He is especially encouraged by the response of students at his Bible Institute who are eager to go out into the mission field and lead lost souls to Jesus Christ.

“The young people we are training for ministry are watching the news and seeing other young people die on the streets of Kiev,” he said. “It is motivating them to go and preach the gospel. They are ready to go now.”

This year Christian Aid is supporting a major initiative spearheaded by a ministry representative and churches throughout Ukraine to distribute New Testaments in thousands of villages and small towns where there are no churches. Called the “Summertime for Jesus” project, hundreds of Christian youth and college students plan to hand out the New Testaments from May through September. They will receive training in how to share their faith and serve as effective witnesses for Christ.

“Just pray for Ukraine, pray for peace,” implored one Christian leader. “What is happening in Ukraine is like a sign from God of the urgency to share the gospel. We will keep preaching.”

Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. - 1 Thes. 5:17-18

How I came to know the Lord(Justus)

Did you know that our mothers have played a big role in our lives in getting to know about our Lord JESUS?

I so love my mom, she has invested a lot in me and what she deposited in my heart will always remain as a seal in me. I so cherish her and love her so much.

My mum was the first one in our family to give her life to the Lord. She got saved back then in 1991 when she received an invitation to go to church by a friend. 'I felt such a great move and very peaceful in my heart that day...' I recall her telling me her story. She had no future, all she used to do was to sell illegal brew, she was the devil's captive but when she received Jesus, life was never the same again.

She received critics, others telling her that she will never amount to be anything at all, that now she is not selling liquor where could she get money? You see the enemy is very deceptive, though she sold all this, she never profited in it, all she got was losses after losses and now when she came to Jesus, she got critics. But she said, it is better I live for Jesus than die selling liquor.

Well she had made her decision. She started taking us to the church, by then I was only 8 years. We went to church every Sunday, my brother Dennis and I would be happy at Sunday school but then we only heard of the Lord's great deeds but never received Him in our lives.

One day, in the year 1998 mum called us at the table, my brother Dennis and I. 'My sons, you know you have to receive Jesus as Lord and savior in your hearts', she said. Then I responded, 'Mum, we do go to church every Sunday, and we have heard the pastor preach to us about Jesus.'

It was then that mum lovingly expounded the scriptures to us, and I listened carefully as she taught us God's word in plain truth. That we were all sinners, and that unless you confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and He rose from the death, and that He is the son of God, and call upon His name, you can never be saved. This startled me, and compelled me and my brother to receive Jesus in our hearts. She prayed for us and led us in a confession prayer. From that day, my faith started growing... and my life was never the same again.

My heart was filled up with joy and going to church was not something normal but I saw it as a place where I found my peace, joy, love and getting to fellowship with brothers and sisters in one accord.

My mother was a humble woman and so she is up to now. She also taught my dad the word, dad too came to church after mum told him that the Lord wanted him for His service. Dad came to church and the pastor prayed for him and received Jesus as Lord and savior in his heart! What a big role my mum played!

I am so thankful to the Lord for my mother. She is the reason for us knowing the Lord.

She spent most of her time in prayer and her prayer was, 'Lord, save my whole family, let them know you Lord Jesus' and this prayer has already been answered as my whole family are now born again. With God all things are possible. All that seems to be impossible with men, it is possible with God.

Don't go by the opinions of men, just like my mother received many critics from the people, she stood her ground and the Lord has been faithful to her and to us all. Trust in the Lord and have faith in Him. Accept Him today and start your life afresh in Him.

"It takes the deep water and the hot fire and the dark valley to teach us the walk of faith."

Elisabeth Elliot

In our daily lives we encounter so many challenges and setbacks. All over the world we hear of wrangles, wars, family breakups, hunger, poverty, diseases and many more. People are dying in sin without knowing our Lord Jesus Christ. We cannot stand and assume that nothing is happening as disciples of Jesus Christ.

A time has come and now it is, that we come out of our comfort zones and reach out the lost in the world. Mark 16:15-16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

As a believer you have the Holy Spirit of God inside you. The Holy Spirit will propel you into sharing this wonderful news of our Lord to the people around you. You have got to fight the good fight of faith. The die has been cast. Step over the line and make up your mind.

You are a disciple of Jesus Christ. You are called to witness. No looking back, letting up, slowing down, backing away, or being silent. Our past is redeemed, our present makes sense, and our future is secured in God’s hands.

The battle is fierce, opposition is at it’s peak, but where does your help come from? Your help comes from the Lord, the maker of heavens and earth, hold on tightly to the word of life, share it, don’t compromise the truths in it and let the Holy Spirit convict the hearts of many.

May this be our declarations:

I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don't have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded, or rewarded. I now live by presence, learn by faith, love by patience, live by prayer, and labor by power.

My pace is set, my gait is fast, my goal is heaven, my road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions few, my guide reliable, and my mission clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted, or delayed.

I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity.

I won't give up, back up, let up, slow up or shut up until I've preached up, prayed up, paid up, stored up, and stayed up for the cause of Christ. I am a disciple of Jesus.

I must go until He returns, give till I drop, preach until all know, and work until He comes. And when He comes to get His own, He will have no problem recognizing me.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16)

For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

James 1:23-25

Our purpose here at The Good News Magazine is to do just that, spread the GOOD NEWS! And the good news is this, that Jesus Christ voluntarily paid the sin debt that needed to be paid in order for us to not only have a relationship with God, but that we may have a way of escaping eternal torment, and living eternally with our Creator, and the Lover of our souls.

This is definitely good news, but how do we know about this good news? From what source do we achieve our information? Is it accurate? How do we know? In this article today, we here at The Good News magazine hope to answer such questions and more. The answer, the ONLY answer, is the Bible; God's spoken word put into written form.

Let's examine some of these attributes of this book that seems to be so widely debated, shredded apart by people of all walks of life including theologians, and hated by so many. Yet this is the book that so many have died for, and that we use as our daily standard for living. Psalm 12:6-7 tells us, “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” We believe God not only gave us His Word, but His pure and perfect Word. Not only is the Bible pure and perfect, but God Himself promises that He will preserve the words in this book from this generation and forever! That being said, if Almighty God is doing the preserving, how can He give us a corrupted book filled with errors? This book is a supernatural book in every respect, and we'll see just a small amount of evidence to support this today.

Hebrews 4:12 tells us, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” We know the Bible is able to convict even the hardest heart. We know the book can bring a person to his knees before Almighty God like none other. We know this book has the ability to provide all the information we need for salvation. But how can a “book” be a discerner? Isn't that a human trait? Yes it is! And the Bible alone has that ability because the Bible is ALIVE! How can I make such a statement? Let's cross-reference this verse to another: 1 Peter 1:23 informs us just a bit more about this miraculous book, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” First of all, we're told the word of God, 'which liveth” and abideth forever!

You would think that believing the Bible as THE standard for living for Followers of Jesus Christ would be the only normal, rational thing to adhere to. But even amongst professing Christians, proclamations are made that this is a good book to live by, but is really only written by men, therefore, because humans are flawed, this book must be as well. How can this be? Out of 200 Christians questioned, most Christians said that not only was it written by men, but because it was written by men, it contains errors! CHRISTIANS said this! This astounded me. Perhaps it shouldn't have, but it did. Over 80% of these same Christians said they had not even read the Bible with 199 of the 200 owning one.

Does the Bible contain errors as both professing Christians and non-Christians alike state? Was it really written by men or was it written by God? If so, how do we know God wrote it? While faith plays a large roll in answering some of these questions, here are some remarkable things about this book that makes it not only divine, but God-inspired and written.

BASICS- Written By Men & Unreliable?

This book that we gather our history from, find peace and comfort from, is the source of eternal salvation that can be found nowhere else was written and compiled over many years. God used about 40 different men to write this extraordinary book. These men were from all different walks of life, lived scattered all over the world, yet were able to compile 66 different “parts” of 1 book that has zero errors in it, backs each other up, never contradicts, and has never been proven wrong even historically even though many attempts have been made. Instead, it builds upon itself, compliments itself, and all lines up with perfect unity from Old Testament to New Testament. What are the chances of man being able to accomplish this by himself? What are the chances of a baby's birth, life, ministry, death and resurrection being predicted hundreds of years before the baby was even born...and every fact 100% correct? GOD is the author! Men were His tools, His vessels, the ones to take His words and put them into writing so that we could have them today. 2 Peter 1:21 assures us, “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” We are also told that ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God in 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

GOD WRITTEN- The Bible Did Not Come About By The Will Of Man.

From the very beginning of creation, we are told of God the Father's desire to fellowship with us, to have communion with us, to reach out to us. We had no desire for Him, yet He made all the effort in not only making His love, desire and will for us known to us. While He verbally communicated with some in the Old Testament, He made provision for us by instructing some of these men to write down the things He told them to so that we would have it today.

A good number of these men had absolutely no idea what they were even writing about – such as in the case of prophesying Christ's birth, and many Old Testament writers who wrote so much about the coming of Jesus Christ to take us Home, the Tribulation period and then His 2nd return with those of us who've accepted Him to rule and reign for a thousand years. Not even John understood all that he saw when the Lord took him up into the heavens to see the future the Lord wanted him to write about! 1 Peter 1:20 tells us that these men were moved by the Holy Ghost to write what the Lord wanted written.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 assures us that we can trust that God is the ONLY author of this Holy Book; “For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.” Even Jesus Christ, God's own Son backed up what the prophets of the Old Testament had written and not only did He never correct them, or set them straight, He quoted them! Luke 24:25-27 gives us a perfect example of this; “Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.” It was Jesus Christ's desire that the disciples, and we, believe what was written...would He do this were it not of God?

Look at all the prophecies already fulfilled that were predicted thousands of years before they happened. This is astounding, and the probability of man to be able to do this is impossible...at least to be 100% right 100% of the time. Now, if we've been given proof of the former prophecies of old that have already been fulfilled years after they were predicted, what should that tell us about the prophecies yet to be fulfilled concerning our salvation, our eternal salvation when our life on this earth is over, the return of Jesus Christ in the clouds to take His Bride Home to be with Him, the testing of the Believers works before His throne for what we did or did not do for Him while here on earth, the Tribulation that will last 7 years here on earth for all those who have not repented & accepted Christ as Savior, The Second Coming of Jesus Christ with His Bride to rule and reign for a thousand years after the Battle of Armageddon which the Bible already tells us He will win? Should we be putting more time into this special Book and learning of such things? ...trusting it completely as the one and only Word of God? ...using it to guide us daily as we work, watch & pray for His return? Or are you going to take a chance that this precious book, The Holy Bible, is just “another book”?

You've been given the facts, the choice is yours. A choice for Christ, is eternal salvation. No choice at all is still a choice, its a choice against Christ. Give this some thought as you read through the words of this precious hymn, “The Bible Stands”, by Haldor Lillenas.

“The Bible stands like a rock undaunted ’Mid the raging storms of time; Its pages burn with the truth eternal, And they glow with a light sublime.

The Bible stands like a mountain tow’ring far above the works of men; Its truth by none ever was refuted, And destroy it they never can.

The Bible stands and it will forever, When the world has passed away; By inspiration it has been given, All its precepts I will obey.

The Bible stands every test we give it, For its Author is divine; By grace alone I expect to live it, And to prove and to make it mine.

The Bible stands though the hills may tumble, It will firmly stand when the earth shall crumble; I will plant my feet on its firm foundation, For the Bible stands.”

Jesus has finally arrived, but it was too late; Lazarus was dead! If only He had arrived earlier. Jesus made His way to the tomb with the grieving crowd following. He stood in front of Lazarus’ tomb weeping, revealing His heart to the crowd (John 11).

Then suddenly He instructed the people to remove the stone from the cave’s entrance. They couldn’t believe their ears. Martha blurted out in her surprise, " Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.”

The people obeyed. Jesus calls out to Lazarus and behold the creator of life (John 1:1-3) gave new life to Lazarus. Lazarus came out of the tomb still wrapped in his grave clothes alive! Jesus directed the people to remove the grave clothes.

This miracle catches us by surprise in several ways. We dare not miss the sign - the miracle of raising a person from the dead is primary. Yet we are surprised by other elements as well. Why did Jesus have the people remove the stone? Was He challenging their faith? Why did He have the people remove the grave clothes? This request seems more obvious.Lazarus couldn't do it for himself. Whatever the reasons one thing is abundantly clear – Jesus chose to involve the people in His work. Amazingly, astoundingly He involved His people in His work.

There are many obstacles that hinder people from coming out of their sin – their graves. There is the sin itself binding them. We cannot remove the sin. Only Jesus can do that. But we can work to remove stones. They cannot even hear the voice of God calling because these "stones" are so thick that they muffle His voice.

Though it is impossible for the church, for you and me, to remove all these stones, Jesus is instructing us, His people, to "remove the stone." Stones of ignorance; stones of apathy; stones of physical need; stones of misunderstanding; these are just a few of the stones we can address and help remove. And the grave clothes; when people find new life in Christ Jesus they bring with them old habits, experiences, hurts – grave clothes. They need to be discipled – to have their grave-clothes removed. It is our responsibility in partnership with the Holy Spirit to help them remove the excess baggage that they carried with them from their life in sin. This takes time, effort, patience, persistence, diligence and an extra amount of God's love, which He provides. But Jesus is looking at us and telling us – "remove the grave clothes."

And old Bible used for many years it's tattered pages torn with a

faded gold inscription on it's cover stained and worn.

It included many markings inscriptions from a pen. Favorite verses

were encircled and comments scribbled in.

My Mother's Holy Bible at her bedside night and day clutched in her

She inserted her instructions knowing death was at her door. Her

"A BURIED TREASURE" by A. Lauer from his book "A Treasury of Dedications".

"On a day quite dark and dreary causing mind and soul to weary, I sat

beside the fire quite contented with myself. I entertained the thought

of dozing and my eyes wee ever closing focused vaguely, on a a

bookcase and the books upon the shelf.

Yes, books of many volumes forming multicolored columns, awed my

imagination in the secrets they must hold.

My aimless fingers wandered as through the books I pondered then, by chance, I found one volume that was ragged, torn and old.

I thought, best it be discarded, for the price of time had marred it

and it bore a musty odor caused by ever-growing mold.

But, I happened to discover 'neath the dust upon its cover the inscription 'Holy

Bible' letters etched in faded gold.

So, I probed amongst it's pages with it's history of the ages, at first, with passing interest, then transformed to utter awe. The story of creation with it's wealth of information to the sheer appreciation of God's wondrous, perfect law.

It told how shepherds trembled when angelic forms assembled to bring

forth the joyous message of a wondrous virgin birth.

Within sin-infested nations, there was need of God's salvation so, Our Lord,

with love and mercy placed His Son upon the Earth.

It told how Peter thrice denied Him; In result, they crucified Him.

Jesus murmured "It is finished" with His last and dying breath. His

body was imprisoned;

Three days later, He is risen and His mission, thus completed, even victory over death.

I then laid the book beside me; Analyzed the thoughts inside me and

I marveled at the message that this great book had to tell. Within

it's beaten cover was a 'Treasure' to discover, rich in paradise

eternal and escape from Satan's hell.

Now, I cannot help but wonder of this world so torn asunder in which

greed will form a ladder by which man can raise himself.

Man will go about his labor, cheating brother, friend and neighbor, while

unopened, lies a Bible gathering dust upon a shelf.

I can draw but one conclusion why we're plagued with such confusion;

My philosophy is simple, although some might think it odd;

In man's constant search for pleasure, he's misplaced a priceless treasure—

A guide for 'Life'' For 'Love' and 'Happiness', by the greatest author--GOD!"

TRUST( Unknown Author)

A new school Principal was checking over his school on the first day. Passing the stockroom, he was startled to see the door wide open and teachers bustling in and out, carrying off books and supplies in preparation for the arrival of students the next day. The school where he had been a Principal the previous year had used a check-out system only slightly less elaborate than that at Fort Knox.

Cautiously, he asked the school's long time Custodian, "Do you think it's wise to keep the stockroom unlocked and to let the teachers take things without requisitions?"

The Custodian looked at him gravely and said, "We trust them with the children, don't we?"

Trust. A simple and short word, but one that implies so much. If I trust someone in one area, but not in another, have I really trusted them? Can trust be area specific? I know confidence can be, but trust implies the whole package.

How do you trust God? Do you, as many people do, trust Him for your salvation, but you don't trust Him to take care of your daily needs? Do you trust Him to forgive you of your sins, but not to help you in personal areas that you lift to Him in prayer? In other words, do you trust the Lord for the big things, but doubt Him (distrust) for the relatively little things?

We need to make a decision right now! Do you trust God for EVERYTHING or do you pick and choose where you trust Him? How does God want you to trust Him? I'm so glad that God forgave me of ALL my sins, not just the ones He thought about, rationalized, and made a decision based on my life experience or my worthiness.

God can be trusted in ALL things; we need to show Him that we trust Him in ALL areas by giving Him our WHOLE life, not just certain areas.

"Sometimes He quiets the storms in our lives, and sometimes He allows them to rage. But regardless of the weather, He always calms and comforts His children."

UNWANTED HOUSE GUESTS (By: Joseph J. Mazzella)

Have you ever had unwanted house guests? I am talking about the

ones who wear out their welcome in the first two minutes yet plan to stay forever. I am talking about the ones who trash the place, eat all the food, sit in your favorite chair, and take over your bed. I am talking about the ones that even your dogs avoid. I am talking about the ones that take everything and give back nothing. I am talking about the ones that only brighten up a room

when they leave it.

I had two guests like this for years. Their names were Fear and Hate and they seemed like permanent squatters in my soul. Every time I would try and toss them out, I would look around a few days later and find that they had snuck back in. They also invited their friends Worry,Doubt, Jealousy, Envy, Frustration, Depression, and Despair to stay as well. It made for a miserable home and a miserable life.

Finally one day I could take it no longer. I cried out to God to help me get rid of these unwanted guests once and for all. It was then that I heard a gentle

knock on the door of my soul. When I opened it I found Love there smiling at me. I invited Love in and watched as my unwanted house guests fled out the door and through the windows. They couldn't leave quick enough. Then Love asked his friends Peace and Joy over to help straighten up the place. I soon realized too that Love was a guest I never wanted to leave. Every now and then Fear and Hate will try to sneak back in, but when they see Love sitting on the couch they run.

God loves us so much and He wants us to love as well. He wants us to choose love, share love, and fill our lives with love. He wants us to love each other as

He loves us. He wants us to make Love our permanent house guest and best friend. Open your door then. Invite Love in. Let Fear and Hate hit the highway. Make your home a happy one now and forever.

An illustration of what’s really inside of us:

Those who follow Christ have His spirit which produces this type of fruits inside of us:

Love: An ability to show God’s love to others, even those who do not love you.

Joy: Having the joy of God inside that is above all things of this world.

Peace: A peace that the world cannot give or take away from you.

Longsuffering: An ability to “tolerate” the intolerable things that life brings our way.

Kindness: Forever and for always.

Goodness: From a pure heart, and without self righteous pride.

Faithfulness: Always true, and forever standing firm.

Gentleness: Strong enough to show gentleness despite our urge to be harsh.

Self-Control: Having a disciplined strength over ourselves.

These “fruits” are 9 different aspects of God’s Spirit inside of those who know Christ and follow Him. We are known by our fruits, only God can produce these type of fruits in you. The point of this story today is to show you the difference between what the character traits of the fruit of God’s Spirit look like vs what our own best efforts look like in the two pictures above of a good bowel of fruit and a bad rotten bowel of fruit from God’s perspective.

Our acts of Love are not perfect like God’s, our joy is dependent upon things of this world, our peace is temporary, our longsuffering is with irritability and complaint, our kindness is not without limit, our goodness will never measure up with God’s, our faithfulness is not perfect, our gentleness is still far too harsh and selective at best, and our self-control is weak in the face of trials and temptations against us.

Mankind’s fruits are full of disappointments at best, not lasting like the kind Jesus Christ offers us. You do not have the ability to produce that kind of fruits inside of you; they must come from the Lord, by His Spirit.

Did you know that God offers you His Spirit to live inside of you so that you have the ability to show those around you the fruit of His Spirit in how you live? Ask the author of this newsletter to pray for you for that to happen. Why continue to show others your rotten side when God can show you a better way.

Peace be with you this day.

"If God be our God, He will give us peace in trouble. When there is a storm without, He will make peace within. The world can create trouble in the midst of peace, but God can create peace in midst of trouble."

‘Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ,

that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.’ - Phil. 2:16
